The swimming pool is located in a private garden in the hills.
It occupies the north-eastern part of the property where the flat soil meets a green bank: the pool is in the flat ground, while the bathroom-dressing room area is on the green bank where it receives light from above.
The design is well-defined, with the plan articulated by walls that, although never meeting, delineate and articulate the space. At the north, a wall supported by short pilasters conceals the swimming pool’s interior from the outside, while the swimmers can look through the horizontal slit into the garden. The entire design is conceived to create a continuous flow between inside and outside, with glazed roof and bearing beams so that from the inside one can see the sky and the tall trees surrounding the swimming pool.
At the south-east and west, the swimming pool is enclosed by frameless glass windows, while the sliding doors at the south and west can be moved and put in line with the walls so that, during the summer, the swimming pool can be opened onto the flat section of the garden. Since the glass windows have no frames, the swimming pool’s elevation remains unchanged whether they are open or closed.
The corner facing the house is withdrawn from the leadbearing structure, with the lintel above turning lightly and effortlessly so that it establishes a direct relation with the house at the west and signals the swimming pool’s entrance.
Although seemingly simple, the architectural system is complex, with the wall at the north that, detached from the ground and suspended, is in fact partially void in order to accommodate the air treatment system, while the crowning metal lintel, developed without superposition and in one plane, accommodates the sliding doors system and part of the swimming pool’s interior lighting system. The slits at the pool’s sides conceal the water treatment system, while the stone floor in the interior continues outside, where rainwater flows into long slits to the drainage system.
Both in plan and elevation, the design is developed as a multiple of 25 cm.
